Welcome to the website for
NORCAN - NORFOLK COMMUNITY ARCHIVES NETWORK.

Our interactive website consists of community archiving groups from around the county who have collections of memorabilia in the form of photographs, video clips and reminiscence sound recordings.

NORCAN is a voluntary organisation that oversees and manages the website on behalf of each individual group. Many of the groups together with the original version of this site formed a part of the Norfolk County Council’s “Archiving Rural Community History” (ARCH) project, which ended in June 2009.  New images and memorabilia are continually being added on a regular basis.

To locate one of our groups, click Places. Then select the location you’re interested in. To see that group’s collection, click the Images button on their ‘local’ homepage when you arrive.

You can Search the collection at any time; either the whole county archive (from this main home page) or a particular group’s collection (from that group’s local home page) – just click Search .. Once you’ve found a record you’re interested in, click on it for more information – or to add information of your own.

To join a group, click the Places button, select the group you’re interested in and then click Contribute .. and follow the on-screen instructions ..

NORCAN is grateful to anyone who has contributed media appearing on this site.  For those who could not be traced despite our best efforts, they are also acknowledged.  Any copyright holder wishing to query material on the web site is invited to contact NORCAN executive committee at secretary@norcan.org.uk
